We’re going to explain you everything about the first steps with SmartKeyword
Your company has just signed a contract and you’ve (finally) joined SmartKeyword!
In order to start on the right foot, in this document you will find some areas of work as well as all the necessary step-by-step information to get your SEO project off to a good start with us.
Step #1: SmartKeyword account configuration
First of all, you will need to make some configurations on your SmartKeyword account to fetch your Google data, and prepare your kick-off call with our expert if you have any questions afterwards.
In order, you will need to:
Create your account on SmartKeyword from the invitation you received by email
Give access to your Google Analytics (GA) account and to your Google Search Console (GSC) account to the address "conseil@smartkeyword.io" (you can click on the links to find out how to do it!)
Link your SmartKeyword account to a Google account that has access to both your GA and your GSC (you can also look at the first demo video)
List your competitors (especially in SEO) and add them to your account (see the video above)
Prepare your brand keywords’ list (including misspellings), and configure the distribution of brand/non-brand traffic in your account
Create your account on the Academy and read the chapters on Keyword research, semantic cocoons, on-page optimization and netlinking to fully understand the basic concepts of SEO
Once all these steps are done, you will have to move on to the most important step, the keyword research! This will determine the keywords to work on as well as potential pages you will have to create. We have divided this part into different milestones in order to simplify its implementation.
Step #2: Keyword research
There will be several scenarios and depending on your SEO progress, you will use our tool to generate the most exhaustive list of keywords possible. Ideally, this will take into account: the keywords of your competitors, the keywords that are already bringing you traffic, and finally, new opportunities.
This list will be the basis of the work, but will not be enough. Indeed, any SEO strategy must also be based on the constitution of thematic "groups", and therefore requires sorting this base.
Step #3: Semantic cocoons and tree structure
Once you have the list of keywords you want to import into your SmartKeyword account, you can take the opportunity to arrange each keyword in semantic "categories" (more commonly called "semantic cocoons").
This will allow you to have your keywords already grouped by categories before importing. However, if you want to import your keywords first and then categorize, that's fine. You just have to follow the instructions in this article or this demo video.
You can then concentrate on the “semantic cocoons” stage, which will allow you to determine the themes and sub-themes that will have to be worked on subsequently.
The tree structure will allow you to represent the "perfect" structure of your website. It will be done from your work on semantic cocoons and mindmap creation. It is thanks to this document that your SEO strategy will be fully mapped out.
Step #4: Importing keywords
Once the "perfect" tree structure has been created, you can import (or re-import) your keywords into your account. Thus, you will have a fully sorted list which will allow you to better prioritize your SEO actions.
The last step will even give you some tips to help you get your project off to a good start using the SmartKeyword tool.
Your keywords’ list that you will subsequently track in your SmartKeyword account will therefore be a beautiful Excel file which will look more or less like this:
To learn more about importing keywords, follow this article and this demo video.
After importing your keywords, you will be able to use your SmartKeyword account at 100% of its capacities.
To fully understand its different features, you will have to watch all the demo videos that you will find in the form of a full playlist.
Of course, if necessary, you can always contact a member of the SmartKeyword team to organise a call and ask all your questions about the platform’s functioning.
Step #5: Prioritization of actions to be implemented
At the end of the previous steps, you will have understood the importance of tags, indexing, and your positioning in relation to your keywords. You will therefore be ready to put in place an action plan to optimize your SEO in the short, medium and long term.
This process can help you get to grips with your SmartKeyword account better and start optimizing your pages.
And then?
You now have all the cards in hand to be able to improve the natural positions of your pages on Google.
From there you will have access to all of our online help through our online documentation and academy. You can also go through our marketplace for support on one-off projects:
