SmartKeyword provides you with an SEO traffic report in the "Reporting > Traffic" tab. In this document we will see how to analyze traffic data.

First of all, note that this screen shows Google traffic data (from Google Analytics), and does not depend on the keywords entered in your SmartKeyword account.

It is composed of 4 main elements:

  1. a filter bar

  2. a "summary" bar with the main figures

  3. a graph

  4. a listing of pages and keywords bringing traffic

Several filters allow you to access a fine analysis of the origin of our traffic, such as the brand/non brand distinction, the device used, the country, and also by comparing 2 comparable periods on the same graph.

1. Filters

The data in this view can be filtered via the bar at the top. This modifies the curve as well as the data summarized on the top banner and the listing of pages and keywords below.

  • Over a given period

  • Selection of a comparative period: allows you to compare traffic over 2 comparable periods (for example, one year VS the next or the month of June 2018 VS June 2019) and to get rid of seasonality aspects for a relevant interpretation.

- Category dimension with 3 possible values: /woman, /man, /child + a rule indicating that traffic coming from URLs containing "/woman" is attributed to the category Woman.

- Sub-category dimension'' with the different possibilities: "/boots", "/sneakers", etc.

This allows you to have a finer visibility of the origin of the traffic, and other rules exist if your URL structures are different ==> do not hesitate to contact your SmartKeyword coach to discuss and make the setup :)

  • By brand/off-brand: as before, it is possible to configure the keywords that are attributed to branded traffic, including your brand name as well as the variants/spelling errors with which your customers search for you. This allows you to understand if the traffic increases or decreases are related to branded keywords or not.

  • By device: 3 possibilities "mobile" "desktop" and "tablet".

  • By country

  • To use the filters, click on "select filters".

2. The summary banner

What is the share of your SEO traffic compared to your total traffic over the selected period?

Is it the same as the share of branded traffic?

3. SEO traffic analysis: the graph

On the graph, it is then possible to make groupings to highlight the shares of each type of traffic (by device, brand/off-brand, etc.) --> combined with the filters presented above, we can thus have access to several use cases: visualization of the off-brand traffic by device, of the traffic of the "shoes" category by device, etc

  • Brand / non-brand:

  • By country :

  • By device :

  • By custom dimensions: categories/subcategories

4. Best organic pages & best keywords in terms of traffic

Two tables give you :

  • Your best organic pages in terms of sessions, average time spent and bounce rate (Google Analytics information) as well as those with a high bounce rate.

  • Your best keywords in terms of clicks, impressions, CTR and position. You will also have access to pre-filters: keywords with a low CTR, keyword opportunities or even your missed keywords. Each table can give you indications on which pages to better optimize based on the number of sessions or clicks too low for high impressions for example.

Opportunities: keywords whose position is between 8 and 20 and which record interesting impressions.

Missed keywords: keywords whose position is higher than 20 and which also record interesting impressions.

=> These 2 pre-filters allow you to see at a glance interesting work tracks for your SEO!
