So let's start our keyword research!

In your SmartKeyword account, you can search for keywords from a webpage url, from a combination of several website urls and you can also retrieve one or several keyword search volumes!

To do this, go to the 'SEO Tools' tab and click on 'Keyword Search'.

You land on that screen:

In each tab, you can search for keywords according to your interests:

  • By similar keywords: you can search for keywords that contain or resemble those you have entered from a semantic point of view

  • By site : Search keywords on which a site of your choice is positioned

  • By site intersections : same principle as above, but to obtain the common keywords of several sites

  • Recover volumes : to recover the monthly search volume of keywords

I. Searching by similar keywords

Let's start with similar keyword research.

You can add a keyword that interests you in your theme and for which you want to find secondary keywords and/or the long tail. Here we are interested in the keyword "paracetamol".

Note that for all the searches you do, you can decide to exclude terms that do not suit you: brand names or products for example that come up often and do not interest you.

A searches’ seasonality graph for the keyword is displayed at the top of the screen. You'll find the keywords classified by search volume below. However, you can decide to classify them differently, by opportunity score for example, as shown in the screenshot below.

In addition, you will find 3 sections: strict search (contains the term entered, here paracetamol), broad search (all queries around paracetamol) and the questions users type in the engine around this theme.

Each keyword is associated with :

  • its monthly search volume (calculated on a yearly basis)

  • a position on the SERP in relation to this word

  • its bid on Google AdWords (average Cost Per Click)

  • an opportunity score index which corresponds to the intensity of the AdWords advertising used on this keyword (raw data recovered directly from AdWords). The higher the score, the more positive it is and the less competition on this keyword.

Careful: do not confuse the keyword search’s opportunity score with the opportunity score shown on your "keywords". The latter takes into account the possible changes in relation to your pages (semantics, tags, etc.). On the other hand the 2 data sets are on the same scale: the higher the score, the more positive it is. 😊

So the ideal is to position yourself on high volume keywords but with an opportunity score in green.

You can directly add the keywords you are interested in to your keyword list by clicking on "add selected keywords" and you can download an excel of the data b clicking on the the "excel export" button.

You can also directly access the SERP for this keyword from this page by clicking on the "G" icon. A new tab will automatically open and redirect you to the Google page. Then, take inspiration from the top 10 content pages to write your articles 😊. It’s obvious, these competing pages will have "long tail" keywords to inspire you from.

Also, next to it, the little graph icon will send you to the Google trend page about that keyword.

Once your article is written, you can test the text and its optimization directly in the SmartKeyword.

II. Searching by site

Let's move on to the site search.

The principle remains the same but this time we crawl the site you have entered.Take a look here at the example of sarenza.com. You can decide to crawl the whole Sarenza domain but depending on the URL you enter, you can also crawl a sub-domain, a folder (directory) or just a specific URL.

The maximum rank corresponds to the maximum position on which the URL is positioned. By default the maximum rank is 30 but you can refine this filter according to the level of requirement you are looking for.

You will find the same data as on the similar keyword search screen as well as two new data sets:

III. Search by site intersection

Here you can add up to 10 URLs. You can crawl all these sites at the same time and find the recurring keywords. This function is very useful if you want to estimate on which keywords your competitors are positioned.

As seen before, you can choose to crawl domains, sub-domains, folders or single URLs. We advise you to search as much as possible by intersections of the same type of URL: domains with domains, etc...

In the results you can classify keywords by the number of intersections. For example, here, for the word "shoe", we see that the word is present on the 3 sites that we have explored.

IV. Recovering volumes

And finally, you can retrieve keyword volumes. This is useful to check if the keyword has potential 😊

You can totally copy and paste your list of words if you don't want to write them one by one. However, you have to make sure you only put one keyword per line. You can search volumes of 1000 words at a time.

And now you know everything and you can do all the keyword research you want! :)
