SmartKeyword tells you everything about domain authority.

Domain Authority, or DA, measures the strength of your site on a scale of 0 to 100. It is calculated by Moz.com, trying to replicate how Google ranks sites against each other.

Here is how to read the Domain Authority scale:

  • DA < 10: Very low authority. If many sites on the 1st page are of this domain authority, it will be easy to go up a priori!

  • DA > 10 & DA < 20 : Low authority, but "OK". This corresponds to sites that already have a minimal reputation and probably decent content. But their netlinking remains low.

  • DA > 20 & DA < 40 : Authority OK. These sites have a very decent reputation and a significant netlinking, it will not be easy to dislodge them.

  • DA > 40 & DA < 60 : Strong domain authority. This corresponds to a site like Sarenza.com, so already very reputable.

  • DA > 60 : Very high domain authority, such as PriceMinister.com.

  • DA > 80 : Extremely high domain authority. It will be very difficult to dislodge them. Example: Wikipedia, lemonde.fr, etc..

The higher your Domain Authority, the stronger your site is considered by Google. Keep in mind though that this is a relative metric as the goal is to be ahead of your competitors, rather than just the best DA possible!

How is the domain authority calculated?

Moz takes into account about forty criteria to calculate the power of a website that it keeps carefully secret. But we know that among these criteria is the quality of external links that your site creates. When your site gets a quality link, pointing to your site, in an article of a large site it improves its Domain Authority. Getting links from sites that have a strong domain authority, and in the same industry as you, is therefore highly recommended!

How to optimize your domain authority?

  • From a semantic point of view by obeying the rules of on-page SEO: titles, alt attribute, descriptions, pages with 400 words minimum, link structures and put a main keyword per page,

  • From a technical point of view your site must be fast, so pay particular attention to the size of files and images implemented on your site pages.

  • You must also regularly increase your site content, so check your website daily and propose a diversified and rich content while adequately informing your visitors. >> Build an audience and quality traffic that will come regularly to your site because they find the content you offer interesting.

  • Links, links, and more links! And ideally not only pointing to your homepage: each page of your site can have its own authority index called Page Authority.

  • Make sure your pages are all linked together and optimized for specific and unique words.

  • Build a blog to get quality links pointing to your site. In the blog write about your expertise, in order to build your influence.

  • The popularity of your site is also important: put links pointing to your social networks and links from your social networks back to your site.

  • Outbound links are also important, because if your links point to a site with poor content or for example to penalized or banned sites it will be harmful for your authority index.

  • Also check the quality of your links, that there are no broken links, page errors and non-existent pages.

  • Finally, you should know that the time factor in relation to the domain name has its importance (even if its importance is decreasing more and more), the longer the domain name is present on the web, the more it will favor its domain authority.

Where to find it in SmartKeyword?

For example, it can be found in the Netlinking screen:

and you can find your domain authority in the domain search (SEO tools):

or on the action plan of one of your keywords:

Note

Knowing the number and percentage of popular pages on your site is important because it maximizes your authority. If you have a site containing 10 pages with a popularity index of 75%, it is much better than a site that has 150 pages whose popularity is only at 40% because they are diluted. So the number of pages is not necessarily an index that will increase your authority index but rather it will be the fact that the link juice is properly distributed between each page and the popularity of these pages.

Mistakes to avoid

When buying links, check that they have a higher Domain Authority than yours and that they are of more or less good quality!
