SmartKeyword tells you everything about backlinks

The backlink (also known as "inbound links") includes all the internal or external site links that "point" to a page.

The more backlinks your page receives from "good sites’ pages", the greater your Page Authority and therefore your Domain Authority. This means that your site has a better SEO and reputation in the eyes of Google.

The link anchor

The link anchor (anchor text) is the word or text to which a link is affixed and that is visible to the Internet user and to search engines.

The anchor must be engaging so that it generates a click, and must contain descriptive words related to the destination page. Ideally, the anchor should contain strategic keywords to ensure proper understanding by search engines and to encourage clicking, i.e. we must understand that the landing page will provide us with more information on the targeted topic.

For example, we suggest contextualized links, within a paragraph, which talks about the same subject as the landing page, such as below :

Instead of a non contextualized link :

Type of link : dofollow & nofollow

When a site links to you, it can set that link up with a "dofollow" or "nofollow" directive.

This is not visible for the Internet users, but it is for the search engines.

And this gives important information to the engine:

  • The "dofollow" links tell Google that the links must be followed, and thus taken into account in its algorithms

  • The “nofollow" links tell Google not to follow the links on your site, and thus to ignore them
