You have reached the end of the process, you now have a nice list of keywords that you will track in your SmartKeyword account, a nice import file as well as the keys to set up an action plan with your expert.

Now you are looking for a way to use SmartKeyword to set up an action plan.

Here are 3 ways to analyze SmartKeyword data and set up an action plan (for a short, medium and long term to do list):

  • from the traffic screen

  • from the keywords screen

  • from the keyword search functionality

1. Process from the traffic screen :

  • Go to the "Reporting">"Traffic" screen

  • Filter by date if you want to analyze a specific period. We advise you to choose a wide period, 3 or 6 months for example.

  • Go to "Pages" and look at the best pages and those with a high bounce rate

  • Look at these pages and try to understand why these pages work well and why others have a high bounce rate. If the bounce rate is for purely editorial pages, it's not a concern because once the user has the information he was looking for, he will leave the page. The bounce rate is more worrying for "commercial" pages that have the CTA (call to action)

  • Then, look at the keywords, especially the "opportunities" and the "missed keywords". Here for example we see that the word "google news" brings strong impressions but not many clicks, probably because the position is 9 and we can do better.

  • Check the volume of this keyword to see if it is interesting to position yourself by going to "Keyword search">"Fetch volumes"

  • Go back to Traffic>Pages and look for the URL closest to the theme based on our knowledge of the site. If we are not sure which page it is, then import the keyword to get the page that is currently positioned. In our case, let's suppose that we know that we have created a selection of articles on google news, we will filter by putting the word "google news" to see all the pages that contain this keyword and then analyze the sessions and the bounce rate

  • Choose and click on the corresponding page, or the best pages (largest number of sessions). Here we take the best page.

  • We will focus on the keywords associated with this page and see if there are relevant keywords that we could add to the study to work on them:

  • Then, go to the screen "my keywords" to add these keywords to a group, here we have created the group "google news" to be able to follow them but we can very well imagine adding them to an existing group such as "google seo" for example

  • Once these words are grouped, we will use the filter to display only these keywords and then look at the page positioned for these keywords. We will then have to look at the queries for which the positions of this page are the least good in order to work on them.

  • Here, the page is ranked in 35th position for the word google news while it has a search volume of 90500 and it brings strong impressions. We will therefore look at the keyword to see how to improve our position

  • Click on the keyword to bring up a pop up "keyword show" which will give us indications on the Google SERP in real time. Be inspired by competitors to see what Google expects for this keyword, and understand how we can write content in the same logic

  • Then go back to the keywords screen, choose the word "google news" and click on "optimize" to get the action plan of the tool (i.e. recommendations to improve the page in question). → Be careful, don't forget to associate the right page to the keyword if the positioned page is not the right one. Otherwise the recommendations will not be the same.

2. Process from the "My keywords" screen:

  • Go to the “My keywords” screen

  • Take a group of keywords to work on

  • Filter by tag

  • Filter by positions less than or equal to 20

  • Choose a keyword

  • Look at the associated page and see if it is interesting to optimize, see if it is the right page, etc. (as above)

3. Process from the remaining articles + "Keyword search" screen:

  • Use the keyword search in the tool to find new ideas. The doc that explains how to use it here (lien original :La doc qui vous explique comment l’utiliser ici. ).

  • Associate keywords to each page, then optimize. Always test the keywords on Google to analyze the result page and make sure you choose the right page for the search intent behind it.

REGULAR TO DO ON THE TRAFFIC SCREEN:

→ To improve pages with high bounce rate:

  • Go to "Pages" and look at the top pages as well as those with a high bounce rate

Look at these pages and try to understand why these pages work well and why others have a high bounce rate. If the bounce rate is for purely editorial pages, it's not a concern because once the user has the information he was looking for, he will leave the page. The bounce rate is more worrying for "commercial" pages that have the CTA (call to action).

→ To improve pages associated with keywords with low CTR (click through rate):

  • Go to "Keywords" and look at low CTR keywords (this is the same procedure for "Opportunities" and "Missed keywords"

  • Analyze the keywords for which the clicks are very low while there are many impressions

  • Go to the "my keywords" screen to see the pages associated with these words and analyze the possible reasons for this low CTR and then implement simple actions
