Traffic peaks on Google Analytics: filtering visits from robots

If you see abnormal traffic peaks on Google Analytics, they are probably visits from robots or crawlers.

In order to avoid having your traffic data "polluted" by robots visits, here is the procedure to filter them out on your Google Analytics account. This is a sure way to show traffic that is really due to human visits. :)

  1. On Google Analytics, go to "Administration", then to "View settings":

2.Check the box "Exclude all calls from known robots" at the bottom:

And there you have it!

To go further, in order to test if it works well in the future, create an additional Analytics view in which you don't check this option, (it might not work in some cases). In this case, name the view as a “test” so that you and your colleagues know that this view shows biased data.
